Who the course is for

This qualification is a 1 year programme for anybody interested in a Hairdressing career, starting at a Level 1 and wishing to progress to Level 2 Hairdressing course.

Salon Reception duties

Learning Methods

There will be practical and theory classes to include discussions, workshops and role plays where you will participate in group work and individual activities. You will also learn outside the classroom through activities and visits.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through practical observation, oral questions, written projects, discussions, presentations and external online examinations.
Please be aware that due to awarding body regulations your finished portfolio must be made available, if requested, up to three years after your course has been completed.

Progression Opportunities

City and Guilds Level 2 Advanced Technical Diploma in Hairdressing,  Make-up and Hair Artistry Level 2  or a Intermediate Apprenticeship in Hairdressing.

Career Opportunities

Hairdressing Junior but due to the limited employment opportunities we suggest progressing to the Level 2  Technical Diploma in Hairdressing.

Entry Requirements

• No formal qualifications needed.
• Provide at least one satisfactory reference from a previous employer or educational establishment.
• Excellent attendance is required (100% expected, minimum 90%)
• Must be prepared to study towards Functional Skills in Numeracy and Literacy.

• If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 5.5
• Full dexterity, good eyesight (with or without contact lens, glasses or other). Students with disabilities will be assessed on an individual basis to confirm their suitability for the course.

There are  Kit, Uniform and Enrichment costs associated to this course that will be confirmed by June 2017.

Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1. Additional financial support may also be available for full-time learners, please call our Student Services team on 0191 200 4000 for more information.
