This qualification is ideal for those who want to work in a business environment whether it is working in a general office, local government such as schools or hospitals or whether you wish to work in a department store or hotel.
Every type of business environment requires the ability to be organised, use office equipment, work with others, deal with customers, answer the telephone, write letters or complete any other document required by a business and much more!
This course is ideal to gain the practical skills and knowledge to enter into the world of work and equip you for the challenges ahead.
Upon completion of the units you will receive a  Level 3 90 Credit Diploma awarded by Pearson (Edexcel) who is a nationally recognised awarding body.

Who the course is for

The course is aimed at anyone with a passion to be involved in marketing, finance, operations, marketing,  retail or an office administrative environment. You do not need any previous experience or knowledge in this area, simply be motivated with the desire to achieve.
It is particularly appropriate for those who want to progress onto Higher Education as upon successful completion of the qualification you can progress onto the Extended Diploma to  gain enough UCAS points to apply for a place at a Higher Education Institution.
Applications are welcome from 16 -18 years (NOTE - funding is not available for learners who will be 19+ on  31st August 2017)

Course Content

The course is delivered by staff who are highly experienced in the Business sector and will provide you with the knowledge and understanding to enter into the world of work and equip you for the challenges ahead.
People who work in the Business sector need a range of practical and academic skills. We will assist you to develop these skills and knowledge so that you can progress to the career of your choice in the future.
You will learn about:
• Accountancy 
• Promoting products
• Market research
• Internet marketing
• Managing business events
• The Retail environment 
• Fashion retailing
• Food retailing 
• Website design
• Online systems for business
All pathways will also cover human resources and general management skills.
You will develop skills in:
• Advertising for staff
• Hiring staff
• Employment law
• Customer service
• Finance
• Marketing and how to work with others
• Using the internet
• Managing people
You will practice these skills through a variety of "hands on" tasks such as running the HCBS Retail Unit, marketing a promotional event and setting up mobile shops. You will also have the opportunity to develop skills within the community through fund raising events and volunteering opportunities.

Learning Methods

The information will be delivered through a combination of formal taught sessions and simulated activities.
You will be expected to participate in group work and individual tasks.
There will be a range of enrichment activities such as experience workshops, micro business surgeries and networking events that are attended by a wide range of local and national businesses, master classes from top entrepreneurs and the chance to work on real life business challenges set by companies.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through written work, observations and simulated tasks within class as well as the projects you participate in outside of the classroom environment.
There are no examinations.

Progression Opportunities

Once you have completed the 90 Credit Diploma, learners will progress onto the Extended Diploma programme .

Once you have completed the Extended Diploma, progression is usually into Higher Education or employment within administration, retail, finance or any other Business environment.

Career Opportunities

Working in any Business environment.

Entry Requirements

At least five GCSE’s at Grade C or above, including English and Maths or Level 2 at Merit level including English and Maths GCSE at Grade C or above.
If English is not your first language you will also need an IELTS score of 5.0 or above.

Course Costs

£100 course costs which will be used to provide you with the following:

A core text book
A stationery set.
The opportunity to participate in at least 5 enrichment activities such as trips or guest lectures.
You may be eligible for help with these costs depending on your circumstances.

Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1. Additional financial support may also be available for full-time learners, please call our Student Services team on 0191 200 4000 for more information.
