Course Content

The course is a National Certificate in which the units studied could include:-

  • Engineering Principles
  • Working Safely 
  • Product Design
  • Computer Aided Drawing

 You will also follow a programme of study to complement this award including, Maths, English and Experience of work

Learning Methods

The focus of this course is hands on learning. This includes Class work - Practical group and individual sessions - Workshops - Directed study - Assignments also form an important part of the course

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through assignments and practical tests.

Progression Opportunities

You may wish to progress onto a second year of study to give a Level 3 National Diploma in Engineering

Entry Requirements

5 GCSE's A-C / 9-4  including Maths, English and Science subject, a Level 2 Ext Certificate in Engineering  or equivalent at Pass level. If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS score of 5.5 or above. You will also be required to attend the school induction programme.

Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1. Additional financial support may also be available for full-time learners, please call our Student Services team on 0191 200 4000 for more information.
