The Foundation Degree in Multi-skill Engineering provides you with a perfect balance of academic and Industrial knowledge. FdEng in Multi-skill Engineering at Newcastle College is designed to kick-start your engineering journey by enhancing and developing new skills, providing strong Foundations in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Industrial and system engineering skills, also developing softer transferable skills throughout the qualification which enables successful graduates to look, apply and get jobs within Engineering.
First Year of the foundation degree will give you multi-disciplinary theoretical, simulation and practical experience focusing on Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering.
Second year of the foundation degree will focus predominantly on Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical and Industrial Engineering skills covering Electrical Power Transmission, Mechanical Power Transmission, Project Management, Energy Systems and Maintenance systems used in industrial applications.
A Foundation degree in Multi-skill Engineering can open many industry doors and you can choose from varied career options in wide range of industries, such as manufacturing, military services, aerospace, telecommunications, automotive, Control, Renewables (Wind), Subsea, Power transmission and Distribution.
National Students Survey (NSS) undertaken independently by Ipsos MORI gathers information from undergraduate students asking individual student to provide feedback on their course and institution. Also, 100% students studying Foundation degree in Multi-skill foundation degree last year have undertaken job offers or progressed with further Education qualification.
The course also satisfies accreditation for TMIET (Technician Member of The Institute of Engineering and Technology). After successful completion of course you can apply for TMIET or you can be a student member while studying this qualification.

Many career opportunities exist for those successfully completing the FdEng programme including design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Military Services, Aerospace Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Rail Engineering, Control Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, Subsea Applications and Specialist Measurement Technicians.

Entry Requirements

A minimum of 64 UCAS Tariff Points at A-level, BTEC QCF Subsidiary, 90 Credit, National or Extended Diploma; Merits in Level 3 Access to HE Diploma, Advanced Apprenticeship.*
*Must be in Engineering, Maths and/or Science subjects.
Applicants must have achieved grade C in GCSE Maths & English Language or the Level 2 equivalents.
Mature students (age 21) will be considered only on the basis of relevant industry experience.
Applicants for whom English Language is not their first language are expected to achieve a minimum IELTS Score of 6.0 or the nationally recognised equivalent.

Course Costs

Students studying the FdEng Multi-Skill Engineering programme will need to supply safety footwear for use when working in the mechanical workshops, or visiting Engineering companies.
