Who the course is for

This course is ideal if you’re looking for a practical, challenging and career-focused alternative to A-levels. It is also suitable for adults who would like to change direction, improve their employment prospects or return to work after break.

Qualification Gained

If you successfully complete the course, you will gain a 90 Credit Diploma in Three Dimensional Design, awarded by Edexcel.

Learning Methods

The course centres on a programme of assignments designed to put your skills to the test.

Teaching is mainly through practical projects, small group work, lectures and private study.

The course attracts visits from established practising designers who will give you the benefit of their years of experience.

As well as developing your specialist skills you’ll learn how to research, evaluate and present your ideas clearly, and to solve problems with creativity, adopting a professional approach to your work.

Assessment Methods

The emphasis is on real-life assignments and projects carried out throughout your time at college.

Progression Opportunities

You could continue your studies by progressing to a Degree, Foundation Degree or Higher National Diploma in Three Dimensional Design, Spatial Design, Interior Design, FUrntiure Design, Transportation or a related area.

Career Opportunities

Previous students from this course have progressed to careers such as Architectural Technician, Retail Merchandiser, Exhibition Co-ordinator and Model Maker.

Entry Requirements

You should be completing, or have completed, at least one of the following:

  • 5 GCSEs A-C
  • BTEC First Diploma in Art and Design
  • An Intermediate GNVQ in Art and Design
  • An alternative equivalent qualification at the appropriate level

If English is not your first language you will also need an IELTS score of 5.5 or above.

Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1.
