Course Content

You will study a variety of units including the following:

  • Investigate the Catering and Hospitality Industry
  • Food safety in Catering
  • Health and Safety in Catering and Hospitality
  • Legislation in food and beverage service
  • Menu knowledge and design
  • Applying workplace skills
  • Principles of beverage product knowledge
  • Service of Hot beverage
  • Food and beverage service skills
  • Handling payments and maintaining the payment point
  • Principles of Customer Service

Learning Methods

Learning emphasises the vocational aspect of the course. There will be lectures, seminars, presentations, group work and role plays. There will also be compulsory educational visits.You will also spend one day a week in an Industry Placement.

Assessment Methods

There are various assessment methods for each unit, ranging from written assignments and reports, individual presentations, online exams and practical activities.

L3 Subsidiary Diploma in Hospitality.

Career Opportunities

Employment within most areas of the Hospitality Industry to include areas such as roles in either food production or food service areas and front of house operations within the Hospitality Industry.

Entry Requirements

You will need to have one of the following:

  • 4 GCSEs at grade D or above including English Language or Maths
  • If English is not your first language we would expect an IELTS score of at least 5.5 in all areas of assessment.
  • A level 1 VRQ Diploma or NVQ Level 1 in Food Preparation and Cooking
  • No holidays booked during term time

Course Costs

There will be several educational visits associated with this course and students are expected to contribute £150. £75 payable during induction and £75 payable by 1 November.

Please note that you will be required to wear a uniform on this course (approx £160), You will normally have to pay for course items such as stationery, books and equipment.

Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1.
