The emphasis is on skills development, including voice and physical/movement techniques which continue to be developed in the second year of the course.
Physical theatre and practice enrichment build on the textual analysis skills, vocal and physical skills developed in specific vocational areas.
The study of Great Practitioners and Work-Related Learning allow the application of techniques learnt in a range of possible working environments. As part of the course, you will perform two pieces in our fantastic 250 seat Peter Sarah Theatre directed by one of our team.

The skills in voice and movement from the first year will be utilised in modules in classical acting, creating and staging theatre, acting techniques for media applications and work-based learning.
At the end of your second year, you will perform as part of our theatre festival ‘Live Across Newcastle’, performing at a number of external venues around Newcastle. You will analyse the impact of your application of new knowledge and understanding.
In Acting Techniques for Media Application, you will work alongside a film company to produce a short film which can be used as a calling card for your first steps into the industry.
You will evaluate and discuss the application of a range of methods to solve more complex problems and to participate effectively in interdependent learning activity, and function effectively as an independent learner.

You will have the opportunity to develop your skills further and perform in two contrasting shows at external venues in Newcastle as part of Alternative Performance Techniques and Modern Performance Techniques. There is also the opportunity to further develop your own areas of interest in Work Based Learning. This student-led project can be New Writing, Physical Theatre, Film or creating a series of workshops with you being in charge whilst still being mentored by one of the course team.
