When you graduate, you obviously want to be sure that you're as well prepared as you possibly can be for your future career. At Newcastle College, you will be. The beauty of our Higher Education courses is that they're highly career-focussed. This means you'll gain the skills and knowledge that employers want. See below to read about the fantastic careers that some of our students have gone on to develop.
Newcastle College has spent many years developing links with businesses and industry regionally, nationally and internationally. Our work placement opportunities are unrivalled; many of our courses incorporate live briefs set by businesses and fun, relevant trips and visits to places of interest. This ensures you gain first-hand experience of your future career.
Art and Design
Our links with industry are extensive and many of our courses include work placements. This will give you a valuable insight into the work place and students who impress are often offered employment.
There is the opportunity to experience practical trips and industrial visits outside the college studios. Our photography students exhibit their work at the gallery of the Association of Photographers’ London headquarters. Our past graphic design, creative advertising and editorial and news media students have visited New York and the prestigious Condé Nast Publishing, New York Times and Fortune Magazine. You will also get the chance to show off your creative talent throughout the year, with a number of exhibitions held both on campus and in regional and national galleries, giving you a real insight into the world of a professional artist.
Business, Management and Computing
You will benefit from the links that the School of Business and Care has with local employers. Students are encouraged to undertake work placements and manage live projects for prestigious companies – giving you first-hand knowledge that will enable you to gain employment in the career of your choice. Alternatively, you can progress to the final year of an appropriate Honours Degree at the college.
Engineering and Science
Our courses ensure you leave with the correct balance of theory and practical experience. Once you have completed your studies with us, our excellent links with local employers and universities will give you the best chance of securing employment within your chosen industry.
Health, care and public services
Our childcare, learning and development students also benefit from our fantastic links with over 1,000 local schools, day nurseries and other day-care providers. You can gain valuable insight into the profession through two-day a week work placements with local organisations. Students on health and care courses benefit from care home and domiciliary care placements, while public services students visit relevant organisations and undertake community based project work – gaining excellent experience to supplement studies. We do everything we can to ensure you succeed – whether you want to start a great career, gain a promotion or progress on to a higher qualification.
Beauty and complementary therapies
We enjoy strong links with industry. There is a need for managers and supervisors in the growing range of businesses where beauty and complementary therapies are offered: health clubs, beauty salons, cruise companies, spas and hotels. Well qualified graduates are also required in a wide range of companies who offer industry products and there are also opportunities for budding entrepreneurs.
Music and Performing Arts
We have excellent links with the UK’s entertainment industry and these continue to grow. Our students have worked with Northern Stage, gaining valuable experience of working alongside industry professionals. The Performance Academy has also attracted a diverse range of public speakers and performers including Sting, Richard Wilson and Steve Davis from EMI as well as Corinne Bailey Rae and BBC Question Time. Our unrivalled facilities, outstanding tutors and specialist programmes are designed to feed creativity and prepare you for a career in the entertainment industry.
Sport and Exercise
As part of the Lifestyle Academy, we have strong links with industry. Work-based assessments are often part of the course and you may also have the opportunity to undertake a work placement, helping you to gain first-hand experience in your chosen field of study.
You may also have the opportunity to practice your skills on the general public at our commercial gym (The Zone), our sports injury clinic and our nutrition club, so you will leave us with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed.
