Our campus is an exciting mix of old and new. From a refurbished Grade II listed building to brand-new purpose-built facilities and all in the heart of Newcastle city centre.
Our facilities are designed to ensure that you gain experience with industry-standard equipment no matter what course you choose. Read on to find out what we can offer you.
Lifestyle Academy
The breathtaking Lifestyle Academy - a £16 million centre for beauty, sport, hospitality and tourism is the first of its kind at a UK college. It boasts real working environments – a salon, restaurant and gym, where students can gain experience with specialist equipment and clients can relax, re-invigorate and rejuvenate all in palatial surroundings.
The Retreat
Our luxury salon and nail bar is located on the top floor and rivals anything available on the high street. Why not treat yourself to a range of beauty and holistic treatments or the latest in cutting and colouring techniques – all at amazing prices?
The Zone
Work out with the latest cardiovascular equipment, resistance and toning machines and fitness studio, all managed by our supervised sport students. A variety of daily classes include pilates, boxercise and yoga.
The Spa
Sit back and relax in our steam room, sauna, drench showers, whirlpool Jacuzzi and heated relaxation beds in front of a soothing light therapy wall.
Chefs’ Academy
This award winning 30-seat fine dining restaurant is run by our supervised hospitality students. It boasts great value á la carte menus and city views with the highest levels of service.
The Bistro
The ground floor is home to a 65 seat healthy-eating bistro, staffed by supervised students. It’s a great breakfast or lunchtime destination for everyone to enjoy. Or you can simply arrange to meet friends here for coffee or one of our fresh smoothies.
Performance Academy
A facility that everyone is encouraged to enjoy, with regular shows and concerts.
Great for those of you who were just born to entertain. It’s the first of its kind in the country and is currently home to over 1,000 students and boasts:
- 250 seat theatre
- three performance venues
- ten recording studios
- TV studio with pre and post-production facilities
- a radio station
- acting, music and dance studios
- recording and media production facilities.
Mandela Building
For our art and design students inspiration is gained throughout the Mandela Building. Boasting a ceramics studio, textile and fashion design studio, as well as photography, drawing and painting studios and darkrooms.
Engineering and Science
As an engineering or science student you will benefit from a wide range of multi-million pound facilities including an organic chemistry lab, the latest computers and software and various workshops and laboratories. We also have a Centre of Vocational Excellence for Aerospace and Allied Engineering, alongside our Aviation Academy based at Newcastle International Airport.
Space
Experience our dedicated HE Centre, Space, a bar and social area created especially for you, it boasts all the facilities synonymous with student life.
By day…
Home to 60 PCs all with internet and email access. Upstairs you’ll find a multi-use social area with a fully-licensed bar serving pub food. Facilities also include a pool table, table football and plasma screens, making this the ultimate place for you to relax.
By night…
This is the venue to meet your friends and socialise. Gigs, quizzes and theme nights in the 400-capacity venue take place on a regular basis. The state-of-the-art DJ gallery overlooking the bar area attracts a range of DJs from across the region.
You can still use all of the facilities that other students do, including numerous cafés and snack bars, but Space is exclusively for our higher education students!

Around the Campus
Spend your free time sampling northern culture at the Mandela building’s impressive gallery. It showcases work from renowned regional artists, photographers, fashion designers, and our very own talented students. For the fashion-conscious, watching or taking part in the end of year catwalk show is a must!
For the sport enthusiast we have football, basketball, rugby, hockey and netball teams that compete regionally and nationally. There is also a wide range of other sports on offer. Or we could help you start your own team.
The library is ideal for some quiet time. As well as computer stations with internet access, it offers a great selection of books, DVDs and CDs available for loan.
Students’ Union
We attract a wide and diverse group of students from many cultures and countries throughout the world. We are confident that during your time with us you will learn, have fun and make friends. All facilities on campus are geared towards making sure you get the most out of your time with us. Our Students’ Union can help you in many different ways.
They can support you, provide information and offer advice, as well as stand up for your rights and campaign on your behalf. The Students’ Union has a packed social programme including parties, trips and a variety of clubs and societies for you to get involved with.
Freshers’ Fair
The Students’ Union will help you feel at home from the very first day you arrive. The Freshers’ Fair is the ultimate introduction to life at college. It is the day for you to find out everything that we have to offer – including fantastic discounts that you can take advantage of by being an NUS card holder.
Clubs and societies
There is always something going on at the Students’ Union – the clubs and societies give you the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of activities. These are just a handful of our societies; a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Society, a Break Dancing Society, a DJ Society and a Gamers Society. Or the Students’ Union can support you in starting your own club. The Students’ Union also values the act of volunteering, believing it to be rewarding and fulfilling to both the volunteer and the wider community. They have many exciting volunteering opportunities available, including being a member of the publicity team or a member of the Student Advice and Support Team.
Student welfare
Student welfare is an extremely important part of the Students’ Union’s work. The Students’ Union is there to help and support you in any way possible and both staff and volunteers are always on hand to offer advice.
