Study hospitality & food at Newcastle College

You will study in our Lifestyle Academy under the tutelage of our highly experienced catering team who have significant industry experience. Our professional cookery courses give you the skills to become a first-class chef or, if you prefer a front-of-house role, you will learn how to serve food and drinks correctly and develop exceptional customer service skills.

You will gain valuable work experience and training through working in professional kitchens and you will have the opportunity to showcase your skills in regional competitions such as the North East Culinary Trade Awards (NECTA).

The skills that you will develop will enable you to study at the next level and there are a wide variety of careers available in this sector including as a chef, front-of-house manager, catering buyer, hotel receptionist, bar manager or waiter.

  • the Chefs’ Academy restaurant – where you will gain experience of preparing food in the kitchen or serving meals to customers.
  • healthy eating bistro – providing students with experience of cooking and serving in a busy bistro.

We have developed an impressive network with local and regional businesses such as Hotel du Vin, Café 21, Blackfriars and Jesmond Dene House. We also regularly hold special theme nights at the Chefs’ Academy. Open to the public, this busy commercial restaurant has played host to an array of top chefs such as Diego Corrado and Dave Kennedy. Our learners benefit from these links through work placements and live work projects. You will gain the qualities and skills needed to succeed in professional kitchens.
