Animal Care

Study animal care at Newcastle College

We work in partnership with Askham Bryan College to deliver a range of land-based qualifications at our West End College facility. These courses give you the opportunity to develop hands-on skills, working with small mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and a range of livestock. Students studying animal care at Newcastle College are also encouraged to take part in planned visits to residential centres at Askham Bryan College’s in York and Penrith where you will be able to access a wide range of animals including exotics, farmed livestock and a commercial equestrian centre.

Animal care courses at Newcastle College can open up a range of careers in the sector including grooming, breeding, training or boarding. You may also choose to pursue a career within veterinary nursing, zoology or conservation.

You will undertake work experience which enables you to work with a range of employers including dog groomers, pet retail/wholesalers, zoos, safari parks, kennels, catteries, rescue centres, aquatics and herpetology sales, farm parks and visitor centres and veterinary practices.
