£1200 cash support for new 16-18 full-time learners

Newcastle College is supporting students from September 2013 by providing £1200 cash over two years of study, subject to meeting eligibility criteria. We want to ensure that each student has the financial support to be able to make the most of their course.

The £1200 cash payment is called the Newcastle College Maintenance Allowance (NCMA). It is paid in instalments over the academic year directly into your bank account, meaning you are free to spend the money on anything that helps you with your studies. You might choose to spend it on travel, text books, equipment or anything else that helps you along the way! NCMA allows you to excel in your course without having the financial worry of studying.

16-19 Bursary Fund

In addition to NCMA, certain students will also be able to benefit from the 16-19 Bursary Fund. The 16-19 bursary fund is a separate government grant which allows students in the following groups to access another grant of £1200 per year:

• young people in care
• care leavers
• young people claiming income support in their own name
• disabled young people who receive both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance in their own name

When you apply for financial support our Student Services team can identify which support fund you are able to receive.
