Financial Support

Newcastle College financial support

Newcastle College offers a range of financial support to students to help with the costs associated with studying. You may be able to access this support if you meet certain eligibility criteria.

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18 years old. You will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of your qualification, this includes year two of a qualification as long as you were aged 16 to 18 when you started in year one.

Please note, if you are applying from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland you may be subject to different funding rules than students who live in England.

Depending on your age and type of course you choose you may be liable for fees even if you are under 19. Please contact Student Services to discuss your eligibility with a student adviser.

FREE travel pass

Students aged 16-18 and joining Newcastle College from September 2016 may be eligible for a FREE travel pass to help with the cost of travelling to the College. This support can be worth up to £1,500.

Further information on the FREE travel pass can be found here.

FREE college meals

Learners aged 16-18 may also be eligible to receive a free meal for each day they are in college through our new free college meals scheme.

You can see if you're eligible here.

16-18 Bursary Fund

In addition to FREE travel certain students will also be able to benefit from the 16-18 Bursary Fund. The 16-18 bursary fund is a separate government grant which allows students in the following groups to access financial support:

  • Young people in care

  • Care leavers

  • Young people claiming income support in their own name

  • Disabled young people who receive both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance in their own name

When you apply for financial support our Student Services team can identify which support fund you are able to receive.
