Lewis James- Coach the Coach

"I love football and have always wanted a career in it. My tutor at school knew about this course and told me to look in to it, so I came along to an open event and from there decided it was the course for me. The main reason why I chose this course was because of the links with the Newcastle United Foundation and the opportunities that it would bring. I now have a job with Newcastle Foundation, you are guaranteed an interview with the foundation at the end of the year and I was successful so will be working with them this year!

The thing I enjoyed most about the course was definitely working directly with Newcastle United Foundation Coaches, and getting to play football every day! It was great coaching local schools and disabled children. The staff at the college have been really helpful, they are really easy to talk to and to go to for advice.

I am partially sighted and had extra support during my studies. I think that just because you have a disability, it doesn’t mean that it should stop you from doing what you want. If you have a disability and want to go to college, come in and speak to the team, they’re really helpful and will be able to support you during your time here.

If I had any words of advice for students thinking about taking the step to come to college, I would say just don’t be frightened to do it. It may be nerve wracking at the start but it is fine.

I would sum up my time at the College in these three words: Career-changing, enjoyable and educational."
