Dance case study

Chilshe Stobbs - Level 3 Diploma in Dance

"I grow up in Sunderland and studied at St Aidan’s secondary school. From starting dancing I knew I wanted to dance professionally, I didn’t want to go down the traditional sixth form route as I didn’t think it could help me on my chosen career route. A friend at my dance school recommended Newcastle College to me and I am so glad he did.

Since joining the College my tutors have been really supportive; they are always there for me and my peers. All of the tutors want you to be the best you can be and that really shows. I auditioned for the Laine Theatre Arts School which is situated in Surrey. They gave me feedback that because of the high standard of my audition there was no need for me to have a funding audition and they offered me a fully funded place on the level 6, 3 year diploma with them! This usually costs £17,000 per year!

I would say to anyone thinking of studying here you will receive the training you need to be successful in dance or musical theatre. The same applies for other areas of the college, the vocational nature of Newcastle College means us as students are prepared for real work and the interviews and auditions that come along with it."
