Electronic Music case study

Campbell Armstrong - Level 3 Extending Diploma in DJ and Electronic Music

"I went through a rough time shortly after leaving St Thomas More Catholic School. I was travelling up and down the country sofa surfing most of the time. I remembered while at school Newcastle College came in and they took us down to the College for a show round so we could see all the facilities. It looked like a great place and had a totally different feel to school. So I looked into studying at the College to get my life back on track.

I have been interested in music since I was 8 years old. I learnt to play the guitar and piano. I would say I have a natural flare for music. So I knew I wanted to do a music course but as I wanted to learn something new, I thought I would try the DJ and Electronic music course. The facilities at Newcastle College are second to none. I am now living in flat in Gateshead and the course has helped me achieve some of my dreams by travelling to concerts to DJ. I receive financial support; which the College helped me get. This has meant I am able to pay my bills and keep studying what I love.

In the future I would like to do a bit of everything I have learnt for the course. The thing about the music industry is that you are able to do this. I would really love to get more into music production. I run my own record label too and it would be great if this took off. That’s my dream."
