Photography case study

Amy Bagnall - Level 3 Extended Diploma in Photography

“I went to The Duchess's Community High School in Alnwick. That’s the closes school to where I live. But after my GCSEs I knew I wanted a change of scene, somewhere busier. Everyone knows of Newcastle College, so when they held an open day me and a few of my friends popped in to see what they offered. The staff were able to provide all the course information and they were really friendly. I was really impressed with the building and all the photography facilities. Since joining the College I have not seen any educational establishment with better facilities.

The tutors are constructive and they make sure you are challenged. Their enthusiasm about the course is what pushes you to want to achieve. They know what would make a photograph better and set you the task of capturing it. Even if you think you have captured the best shot possible they tell you how to add that little bit extra to make it amazing. Throughout the course I have enjoyed the freedom the most. You can choose your own interpretation of the brief. And there is no right or wrong answer. The course is full of likeminded people who have different characters. We all inspire each other and its great to see each others work.

By completing the course it has given me direction, I now know what I want to do and where I see myself going in the future. My ambition is to travel the world doing what I love, photographing people, places, animals... I would really love the opportunity to work for National Geographic's. That would be the pinnacle.”
