Support for Learners who are Blind or Partially Sighted

The specialist team of staff here at Newcastle College provide support and advice to learners who are blind or partially sighted.

What kind of support do we offer?

  • Information and advice before you start your course on what is available and assistance with application and enrolment.
  • Individual assessment of learning requirements.
  • Specialist tuition
  • Formatting of materials into Braille, Large Print or Audio
  • Provision of individualised study support.

Study support might include:

  • Information and advice before you start your course on what is available and assistance with application and enrolment.
  • Provision of individualised study support.
  • Specialist equipment or software such as screen readers and magnifiers.
  • Note-takers and readers
  • Adaptation of course materials into preferred format including large print, Braille and audio.
  • Sighted guiding around the college campus.
  • Orientation and familiarisation training around the campus.
  • Braille tuition.
  • Specialist Information Computer Technology (ICT) classes specifically for learners who are blind or partially sighted
  • Specialist tutor for learners who are blind or partially sighted
  • Provision for guide dogs.

The Team will support you throughout your course and can also provide advice and guidance on other educational opportunities and routes into employment.
