Student Support

The staff... a warm welcome

We are very happy to be the first people to meet you! Our dedicated office team will introduce you to the college, answer your questions, take care of your needs and help you during your course and your time at Newcastle College. We are here to help and realise how difficult it can be arriving in a new country. You can find the International Office on the main campus (Rye Hill) approximately a five minute walk from the train station in central Newcastle.

Arrival & induction programme

Before you arrive in England you will be sent pre-arrival information about the college and living in Newcastle and we can help arrange accommodation for you. If you let us know your arrival details we can arrange for you to be met and taken to your accommodation (terms and conditions will apply). Our induction programme will ensure a warm welcome, and give you information and guidance for your time with us.

We will help you with:

  • Finding accommodation
  • Opening bank accounts
  • Registering with a doctor
  • Immigration/Visa issues
  • Course information
  • Progression advice
  • General welfare issues

Students' Union

At the Students' Union you can join a society or a club and get involved with life outside your course!

International social programme

All international students are members of the International Society, which helps organise many activities. We also offer a social programme with trips and excursions to local places of interest: visit Edinburgh, Durham and the Lake District, and other beautiful places in the North of England.

Personal tutors: specialist help & university guidance

When you arrive at Newcastle College you will be given a Personal Tutor who will help you and support you during your course. If you intend going on to university you will get expert advice on which university to choose and how to make your application (UCAS). If you study English you will be given specialist language tutor support. You can also get help from a personal advisor to help you make decisions about your future, and we can refer you to professional counselling staff if needed.
