Contract and Tenancy

Information about Contracts and Tenancy Agreement Arrangements in the UK

Please note that students are expected to pay the rent for the full period that has been arranged and will be required to sign a binding tenancy agreement for the appropriate length of the contract. Most residences will require a deposit payment or booking fee which is payable upon booking. If the required deposit is not paid, the accommodation booking cannot be guaranteed.

A student who wishes to move out before the end of the tenancy period will only be allowed to do so once a suitable replacement has been found to take over the contract AND has obtained permission both from the residence management and the International Office.

Students who decide not to attend the college or live at the accommodation that has been arranged after having applied for accommodation should notify the college immediately. Students, who choose not to live at the accommodation that has been arranged and who do not inform the International Office or the accommodation management of any cancellation, but have paid the deposit, might not be able to recover the deposit paid.

Most of the accommodation is available from September (as this is the start of the academic year) and will normally run until end of June or early to mid July. Accommodation over the summer period is available at extra cost and will depend on availability.

Demand for popular accommodation close to the college is high so students may not be successful in their application for their first choice.

Students who are continuing/returning students i.e. students who are continuing on a second or subsequent course will usually need to find private accommodation. This also applies even if they have not opted to live at any of the accommodation signposted by the college during their initial period of study at the college.

Please note a tenancy agreement will be subjected to the length of the tenancy that is actually signed and agreed to by the student, which is normally a maximum of one academic year.

The college does not own or manage any of the student accommodation and therefore payment of accommodation fees should not be made with tuition fees for the course, neither should it be made payable to Newcastle College.
