Performing Arts

The Performance Academy at Newcastle College University Centre offers a broad range of specialist one, two and three-year degrees leading to BA (Hons) degrees in Acting for Stage and Screen, Musical Theatre and Dance. As a dancer, actor or musical theatre student you will develop your skills and gain a wealth of industry experience to prepare you for an exciting and successful career in your chosen industry.

Our degrees are all about providing you with the technical, performance and creative skills needed to thrive within Performing Arts. You will study in our state-of-the-art Performance Academy  building and perform in our very own Peter Sarah Theatre, as well as honing your craft and learning from tutors who will offer their industry experience and in-depth knowledge to create industry standard works and productions.

Our alumni have gone on to have fulfilling and successful careers as performers, choreographers, directors, writers, teachers and performing arts producers - locally, nationally and internationally. As a graduate of The Performance Academy, you will join an array of artists and performers who have tread the boards before you, showcasing the very best talent Newcastle College University Centre has to offer.

What can I do with a qualification in Performing Arts?

Daily tasks:

  • Plays pre-recorded music at nightclubs, discotheques, and private functions.
  • Conducts interviews and prepares reports for news broadcasts, current affairs programmes and documentaries.
  • Introduces and presents radio and television programmes, reads news bulletins and makes announcements.
  • Trains animals to perform entertaining routines and may perform with them.
  • Performs singing, comedy, acrobatic, illusion and conjuring routines.
  • Assumes character created by a playwright or author and communicates this to an audience.
  • Studies script, play or book and prepares and rehearses interpretation.
