Acting and Performance case study

Rachel Oliver - FdA Acting and Performance Practice

Why did you choose to study at Newcastle College?

When applying for my course I wanted a lively but modest city and a course that was vocational. I also wanted practical experience and the opportunity to take part in work placements. Newcastle College offered all of these. I also knew that once I’d completed my Foundation Degree I could progress onto the one-year Top-Up degree as well.

How would you describe the course to others?

The Foundation Degree is one of the most industry related course there is. It is relevant and unique and the teaching staff could not possibly be any more encouraging, inspiring and truly brilliant. I think you can learn more about this industry and the skills needed from people who have actually experienced it themselves and Newcastle College offered first class tutors.

Have you had the opportunity to go on work placement?

The college has strong links with Northern Stage, an international theatre company so I was fortunate to have the opportunity to go on placement there. We were introduced to the company as part of our course so it was a great opportunity to gain work experience.

What are your plans for the future?

My hopes are to continue to work within the performing arts industry. I am about to start rehearsals at Northern Stage. The course at Newcastle College combined with the experience I’ve gained has been vital in preparing me for the future.
