Aeronautical Engineering case study

Gareth Deere - FdEng Aeronautical Engineering

Why did you choose to study at Newcastle College?
I had studied my Level 3 at the College and really enjoyed it so it made sense for me to stay here to study my degree. I spoke to current and past students who all said they’d had such positive experiences which helped to make my decision.

What do you enjoy most about your course?
I love all of it; it’s such a hands on, practical course. The most rewarding thing is being able to apply what I’ve learnt in the classroom out in the field and fix real aviation problems.

What skills do you feel you’ve gained as a result of studying the Foundation Degree?
It’s definitely helped me to build my confidence as well as develop key employment skills such as teamwork and communication skills.

How would you describe the staff at the College?
The course tutors are so supportive and approachable; they’ve always been there for me if I’ve had any issues. They’re really inspirational; as they’ve worked in the industry they’re able to offer little gems of advice which are invaluable really.

What are your plans after the course?
I’m hoping to go into industry working as an aircraft engineer for a major airline, that’s the dream!
