Business case study

Devan Hughes - BA (Hons) Business Management (Top-Up) (Finance)

Why did you choose to study at Newcastle College?
I was working and wanted to study alongside my job, I looked online and came across Newcastle College. I was surprised at how many courses the College offered and that I would be able to study a BA (Hons) (Top-Up) part-time. This really suited me, so I knew Newcastle College was the right place for me.

What do you enjoy most about your course?
I enjoyed the flexibility of the course; I was able to fit the course around my life. Being a part-time student I was worried at first if I would get all the information but the College were great at sharing the materials and presentations, making it really easy to study when it was best for me. And if you missed anything the tutors would email you it so you could catch up.

Have you had the opportunity to go on a work placement as part of your degree?
There was the opportunity for work placements. But as I was already employed I chose to use my current job to help with my assignments and the College were very supportive in my decision. There was a lot of work based learning which I really enjoyed and I was able to learn so much, while I was still earning.

What has been your highlight of studying at Newcastle College?
Completing the course is something that has been a great achievement for me. I have also made so many friends, being a part-time student I wasn’t expecting that.

What are your plans after your course?
By successfully completing the course I have been promoted to Assistant Manager at work. I am so pleased with this and I am looking forward to the new challenge. The course has opened so many opportunities up to me.
