Case Study - ncjMedia

Objective
ncjMedia has a strong portfolio of newspapers that operate throughout the north east. A role became vacant within their busy finance team for an individual to join their team at a grass roots level. The company wanted to recruit someone that would be given the opportunity to develop within the department and identified the Apprenticeship route as the ideal way to meet their needs.
ncjMedia contacted Newcastle College to discuss the options available to them. The company were searching for a candidate that had a genuine interest in accountancy and someone that would be able to grow within the business.
Newcastle College recommended the Business Administration Apprenticeship as the most appropriate programme, with the ability for the candidate to progress on completion of the Apprenticeship to an AAT in Accountancy.
After an initial discussion, they outlined the type of candidate they required and provided the college with a job description. The vacancy was displayed on the college Apprenticeship website, specifying the strong finance element. Applications began to generate for what proved to be a popular position.
Taking advantage of the college’s free recruitment and matching service, ncjMedia were provided with a shortlist of candidates, from which they were able to arrange interview dates.
After interviewing 5 candidates, Amber Bambury was successfully appointed to work within the finance team. Amber has settled in extremely well within the business and is working within an environment that allows her to fulfil her dream of becoming a professional accountant.
ncjMedia have been so impressed with the quality of Amber that they have identified the Apprenticeship programme as a way to recruit new members of staff if the right position became available in the future.
