Course Content

What is an independent? · Sourcing talent · Branding and positioning of a label · Distribution contracts · Online marketing and promotion · Legal considerations · Building a career of an artist · Music video treatments and their applications · Touring and a label’s responsibilities

Learning Methods

Students will engage in a number of practical activities based on the subject area using relevant resources to develop a basic understanding of the discipline.

Assessment Methods

Students will present a portfolio of work for internal and external assessment.

Progression Opportunities

If you meet the other entry requirements, you could progress to one of our music courses. Alternatively, you could choose one of our other part-time certificates in art and design, starting in September.

Career Opportunities

This course provides you with a basic understanding of music industry subjects which relate to music industry career progression opportunities. Further guidance will provided throughout the course.

Entry Requirements

A genuine interest in the subject is the only requirement for entry. If English is not your first language you will also need an IELTS score of 4.5 or above.

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1. Additional financial support may also be available for full-time learners, please call our Student Services team on 0191 200 4000 for more information.

Learners aged 19 or over
