Overview

This course offers an excellent introduction to a range of beauty therapy skills to enable to be employed in a Beauty salon or progress to a Level 3. You will practice what you learn at The Retreat, our commercial beauty salon which simulates a real work environment. You’ll also have the opportunity to undertake visits to beauty exhibitions and attend additional training courses (fees will be incurred). This course may include 9.00 am starts a late night and some Saturdays

Course Content

C&G Level 2 Technical Certificate in Beauty Therapy
You will study a variety of units which could include the following:

Principles of practice for beauty therapies
Hair removal treatments
Facial and skin analysis treatments
Manicure & Pedicure service
Light cured gel polish
Lash and Brow treatments
Tanning treatments
Make up
Anatomy and Physiology
 

Learning Methods

You will learn through a combination of interactive classroom teaching, working in small groups and practical work. During your studies you will work in our modern beauty salons using the latest in beauty therapy equipment.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through practical observation, oral questions, written projects, discussions, presentations and at Route 3 an external online examinations and synoptic end practical examination externally set and internally marked.
Please be aware that due to awarding body regulations your finished portfolio must be made available, if requested, up to three years after your course has been completed.
 

Progression Opportunities

Route 3 progression to L3 Beauty and Spa. Other courses will be available are Gel Application, Acrylic Application, St.Tropez Tanning, Lash Lift and Brow training at an extra cost.

Career Opportunities

Previous students from this course have progressed to jobs in a Beauty Salon, Nail Technician or working as an in-store Beauty Consultant or mobile Beauty Therapist.

Entry Requirements

You must attend an interview with Student Services.
Provide at least one satisfactory reference from a previous employer or educational establishment.
4 GCSE Grade C or above Ideally English and Math’s.
Excellent attendance is required (100% expected, minimum 90% acceptable)
Must be prepared to study towards GCSE/Functional skills in Numeracy, Literacy
If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 5 ( A score of 5 in speaking and listening and 5 in Writing)
Full dexterity, good eyesight (with or without contact lens, glasses or other). Students with disabilities will be assessed on an individual basis to confirm their suitability for the course.

Uniform – Beauty £71.95 X 2 tunics X1 pair of trousers and a FOB watch
Essential course costs-  £80.00
 
Shoes – students to purchase own plain black ballet.
Towel – you are required to provide 1 bath towel for all practical lessons requiring a modesty towel such as body treatments and facials.  ( Grey or Navy) and have no pictures, prints or patterns
Stationary – students to provide own
Theory/text book – You get one Level 2 text book with your kit, our library has a full range available to you to support your study

Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1. Additional financial support may also be available for full-time learners, please call our Student Services team on 0191 200 4000 for more information.
