The course aims to provide you with a range of essential technical and practical skills in creative make-up and Hair Artistry to equip you to seek employment or further training within the make-up Industry.

Who the course is for

The course is suitable for school leavers who have 4 grade D or above or a completed a Level 1 in Hair or Beauty. Ideal for someone who is interested in the Make-up Industry.

Course Content

You will study a variety of units which could include the following:-
 Principles of working in the make-up industry
Anatomy and Physiology
Principles of researching, developing and   showcasing designs.
The art of applying make-up
Hair artistry
Creative make-up artistry including face and body art and special effects.
 

Learning Methods

There will be practical and theory classes to include discussions, workshops and role plays where you will participate in group work and individual activities. Will also include work experience.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed throughout the year by practical observation, oral questions, written projects, discussions, presentations. An end externally set exam for knowledge will be sat and an externally set synoptic end practical examination.
Please be aware that due to awarding body regulations your finished portfolio must be made available, if requested, up to three years after your course has been completed.

 

Progression Opportunities

You can progress to a L3 Make-up Artistry or L2 Technical Certificate in Beauty Therapy or Hairdressing.
There will also be a range of enrichment opportunities offered by Newcastle College (Information from your course tutor). Examples of this include Gel nails, Eyelash Lift and Brow training, threading or Spray Tanning

Entry Requirements

• Provide at least one satisfactory reference from a previous employer or educational establishment.
• 4 Grade D above or a Level 1 Certificate in Hair and Beauty Certificate.
• Excellent attendance is required (100% expected, minimum 90%)
• Must be prepared to study towards Functional Skills or GCSE in Numeracy, Literacy and IT
• If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 5.5
• Full dexterity, good eyesight (with or without contact lens, glasses or other). Students with disabilities will be assessed on an individual basis to confirm their suitability for the course.

Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1. Additional financial support may also be available for full-time learners, please call our Student Services team on 0191 200 4000 for more information.
