Overview

This HITZ sport course is aimed at re-engaging students back into education and to help develop a career in sport. It is very practical in nature and sessions will take place at the College and Newcastle Falcons stadium at Kingston Park.

The course is supported by Premiership Rugby and the course also offers work experience placements with Newcastle Falcons current partners across the North East.

All students will also take part in Barclay’s Life Skills programme.

HITZ is over 1 year and after the first year you will gain a L1 City & Guilds Certificate in Sport that is worth 25 credits.

Course enrichment 

• Students can take part in a two week Sportilia trip to Italy which involves watching Serie A and B football matches, trips to the Italian FA and playing competitive football matches.
• Students enjoy regular trips to local gyms, football, rugby and basketball stadiums to enhance learning.

Who the course is for

A course for 16 to 19 year olds who have a passion for sport and exercise and want a job in the sports industry. Professional training by Newcastle Falcons and a programme of study at Newcastle College.

 

Qualification Gained

If you successfully complete the course you will gain a City and Guilds Level1 Certificate in Sport plus additional coaching qualifications.

You will study a variety of units which could include the following:-
• Participating in sport
• Assist in the planning, delivery and evaluation of sporting activities

• Improving personal exercise and fitness.

• People skills in sport and active leisure
• Components and function of the body in physical activity.

• Written Assignments
• Group and/or Individual Work

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through practical observation, oral questions, written projects/assignments and discussions.

Progression Opportunities

If you successfully complete the course, you can progress to the Level2 Diploma in Sport.

Career Opportunities

You could find employment in areas such as the sports and leisure industry, sports coaching in sports clubs and schools and health and fitness clubs.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal qualifications required but all students will go through diagnostic assessment prior to commencing the course.

Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1. Additional financial support may also be available for full-time learners, please call our Student Services team on 0191 200 4000 for more information.
