If you are enthusiastic and passionate about the ever growing beauty and spa industry, this course offers you a unique opportunity to enhance and develop your career. This course has been designed to develop advanced technical and theoretical skills required by industry. You will gain work experience in our innovative advanced clinic within The Retreat, our own beauty salon and spa, which has been recognised as a Centre for Excellence by the International Institute for Anti-Ageing. As well as gaining work experience within our own clinic, through our strong employer links you will also have the opportunity to gain a placement in various salons, spas and clinics. Previous students have secured placements with Gleneagles Hotel, Pro Skin, City Retreat and Seaham Hall. You will work with recognised professional brands such as Elemis, Environ, Agera Chemical Peels and Jane Iredale and have access to specialised equipment such as our Energist VPL, 3D Lipo, Microdermabrasion and CACI machines.

Year 1
Academic Study Skills 
  - Development of academic study skills to support HE study.
Consumer Awareness and Marketing - Develop and enhance your knowledge and understanding of the importance of customer service and marketing.
Personal Development or Recognition of Prior Learning – Develop personal study skills to support in education and future career choices.
Physiology and Ageing - Develop in-depth knowledge of the physiology of the skin and its effect on skin conditions and ageing.
Spa Treatments – Includes innovative treatments that will prepare you for employment and the expanding spa industry.
Work Related Learning - Provides an opportunity for students to understand and reflect on practices and issues within their vocational area.

Optional modules:
Laser and Pulsed Light Therapy – Develop knowledge and understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of laser and pulsed light therapies, including safe working practices and identification of potential hazards.

Year 2
Advanced Massage - Implement and evaluate advanced body massage techniques.

Professional Development - Review and develop employability and transferable skills.
Salon and Spa Management - Build your knowledge in the principles and practices of salon and spa management.

On successful completion of the Foundation Degree you may decide to progress onto our one-year BA(Hons) Business Management (Top-up).

The course will give you the skills and knowledge to pursue a range of roles including managerial within aesthetic clinics, health clubs, spas, hotels and product and equipment companies.
Previous graduates have secured employment with Steiner Cruise Liners, Pro Skin, Transform, Silverlink Clinics and with some setting up their own business.
 

 

Entry Requirements

VTCT or NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy (or equivalent) to include modules studied in Facial & Body Electricals
In line with professional practices, students will be required to wear professional salon wear during practical sessions.
If English is not your first language you will need an IELTS score of 6.0 or above

Course Costs

You will need to purchase a standard professional uniform for work in the salon (Price TBC). Additional cost of £100 for Elemis training. You will normally have to pay for course items such as stationery, books and equipment. You will also be encouraged to participate in study trips, which will vary in cost depending on the nature of the trip
