Who the course is for

The purpose of the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting is to provide students with the specialist knowledge and skills required for progressing either to employment in an accounting or finance role, or to enable progression to further study in accountancy and finance.


This qualification is a progression route for students who have achieved either the AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting or the AAT Foundation Diploma in Accounting and Business. It is also suitable for those who are at a more intermediate level and looking to develop their skills in accounting, or for those who have already started working in finance and who have a need and desire to attain formal recognition of their skills.

Course Content

The Advanced Diploma consists of 6 modules which are assessed through 4 Unit Assessments and a Synoptic assessment.

The modules you will study are listed below:

  • Advanced Bookkeeping
  • Final Accounts Preparation
  • Management Accounting: Costing
  • Indirect Tax
  • Ethics for Accountants
  • Spreadsheets for Accountants

Learning Methods

Supported online learners will have access to our Virtual Learning Environment which provides all course materials and content. Learners can log in at any time as long as they have internet access. Learners will also have access to a Personal Online Tutor to support them through their studies. Learners will be required to dedicate between 6 – 10 hours flexibly per week.

Assessment Methods

All AAT assessments are practical computer based assessments (CBAs) and marked automatically. During the AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting you will sit with 5 assessments which must be sat either at Newcastle College or an external AAT Test Centre.

 

Progression Opportunities

After successfully completing the AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting, you can progress to the AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting (Level 4).

Entry Requirements

Learners wishing to study this qualification must hold an AAT Level 2 qualification in addition to GCSE’s in Mathematics and English at Grade C, 4 or above. If a learner does not hold these qualifications an admission decision can be made based on their practical accounting work experience alongside the AAT Skillcheck diagnostic. International Learners must have minimum IELTS score of 5.5 with no component under 5.

Additional Information
If you’re over 19years of age, this course can be funding using the governments 19+ Advanced Learner Loan system, you won’t pay anything until your course is finished and then you only start paying back when/if you earn over £21,000 per year. LARA Ref Number: 60069089

Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1. Additional financial support may also be available for full-time learners, please call our Student Services team on 0191 200 4000 for more information.

Please note, if you are applying from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland you may be subject to different funding rules than students who live in England. Depending on your age and type of course you choose you may be liable for fees, even if you are under 19.
