The Level 1 Diploma is designed to prepare young people for entry into the construction industry in their chosen craft. It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions.

This is a full time course developed for 16-18 year olds who want to build a career within the crafts of the construction industry.

Course Content

General Core Units

  • Occupation Specific Units
  • Synoptic Practical Assignment
  • Multiple Choice Unit End Tests
  • Online Testing of Knowledge.

You will also be required to complete Functional Skills Level 1 in Maths and English, unless you already have the relevant qualifications

You will learn through: - Lectures - Group Work - Demonstrations - Discussions - Hands-on practical training and assessment

 

Progression Opportunities

Move onto the Diploma Level 2, which is a full time course or onto an apprenticeship when you will come back to college through the NVQ route

 

Entry Requirements

Suitable if you don't have any qualifications. You will have already attended an interview and Summer School induction prior to enrolment. If English is not your first language, you will need an IELTS score of 5.0 or above.

Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1. Additional financial support may also be available for full-time learners, please call our Student Services team on 0191 200 4000 for more information.

Depending on your age and type of course you choose you may be liable for fees, even if you are under 19.
