This practical work-related Travel and Tourism Level 1 course offers a sound grounding in the travel industry that will improve your skills and prepare you to progress onto a higher level course.

You will study a variety of topics and gain an understanding of the tourism and hospitality industry on a local level. A Travel and Tourism Level 1 Award course offers the opportunity to go on many local visits and give you a solid grounding before progressing onto a higher level.

Course enrichment

• Travel and tourism students have enjoyed trips to Spain and France to help understand culture and travel.
• Students are given the opportunity to support regional events by acting as NewcastleGateshead Initiative city ambassadors
• Last year, students took part in site visits and master classes with companies like British Airways, Newcastle International Airport, Virgin Atlantic and Marriott Hotels.

As part of your Programme of Learning as well as your main qualification you will also develop your work skills. You will do this by

- Skills Development – you will develop your skills in the travel and aviation or sport industries to enhance your career opportunities.
- PPR – which is enabling you to become expert learners setting personal, academic and career targets and goals
 

 

Learning Methods

Learning emphasises the vocational aspect of the programme.

There will be lectures, seminars, presentations, group work and role plays. There will also be compulsory educational visits.

Assessment Methods

There are various assessment methods for each unit, ranging from written assignments and reports, individual presentations, online exams and practical activities.

Level 2 Certificate in Introduction Air Cabin Crew
 

Career Opportunities

Junior or trainee in the Travel and Tourism Industry, e.g. travel agent, airport check-in, overseas representative, working in a visitor attraction.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are necessary; those interested will be considered on an individual basis. You should have an IELTS score of at least 5.0.

Course Costs

Enrichment
There are several educational visits associated with this programme. The total enrichment fee is £170 which is payable on the first day of your induction.

Uniform
Please note that you will be required to wear a uniform consisting of a black business suit, white shirt or blouse and black business/court shoes. You will be required to purchase a college scarf/tie. Please ask to see “Our Business Standards” hand out for full details of uniform

Other expenditure to consider
All students are expected to be fully equipped with stationary needed for lessons. You also need to plan for transport costs to and from college.

Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1. Additional financial support may also be available for full-time learners, please call our Student Services team on 0191 200 4000 for more information.
