Who the course is for

This course is for Chefs who have achieved a NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery. This course is aimed at Chefs working on a part time basis in the industry to complement their study.

Qualification Gained

NVQ Level 3 in Professional Cookery, awarded by City and Guilds.

Assessment Methods

The Qualification is assessed in a number of ways. Theory work is assessed by formal assignments which will involve homework set on a weekly basis to develop your portfolio Practical Assessment is carried out over the whole year encompassing a variety of disciplines which are assessed a Unit at a time.

Progression Opportunities

Successful students may progress onto Foundation Degree in Hospitality Management ( Level 4 & 5 )

 

Career Opportunities

Any candidate achieving this qualification should be looking for employment at Chef de Partie level

Entry Requirements

You should have at least 4 GCSE grade C or above including English or Maths and NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery .You should also possess three years industrial experience supported by a reference from your employer

  • Due to food safety and awarding body requirements during practical sessions all students must remove all visible jewellery, including facial piercing and keep nails short and polish free
  • Wear professional dress for practical sessions
  • Have full dexterity and have a good standard of personal hygiene
  • To be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Be able to communicate and work effectively with others
  • Reasonable IT skills
  • If English is not your first language, an IELTS score of 5 is required.

Course Costs

You will have to pay for your uniform (approx £190).You will normally have to pay for course items such as stationery, books and equipment. There is also cost of educational visits attached to the Curriculum at a cost of £200 which is payable at the start of the course .We may be able to help you with these and also with related costs of coming to college such as travel and childcare. Additional Course Costs

16 to 18s

Tuition is free for learners aged 16 to 18. A learner will continue to be eligible for free tuition for the duration of their qualification, this includes Year 2 of a qualification if the learner was aged 16-18 when they started in Year 1. Additional financial support may also be available for full-time learners, please call our Student Services team on 0191 200 4000 for more information.
