Overview

Aims to equip potential and practising team leaders and first line managers with the foundation for their formal development in this role.

The qualification does this by developing basic management and leadership skills and assisting participants in gaining the necessary knowledge required at this level.

Who the course is for

This course is for practising and potential first line managers and team leaders. It has two primary objectives:

  • To assist participants in gaining the basic knowledge required by a manager
  • To develop basic leadership and management skills

Course Content

The course consists of a core of key management modules:

  • Solving problems and making decisions
  • Understanding change and innovation
  • Understanding leadership
  • Leading and motivating a team effectively
  • Giving briefings and making presentations

In addition, the class as a whole chooses two extra units. This allows each cohort to tailor the course to their particular needs. Popular additions have been 'Developing Yourself and Others',' Performance Management' and 'Managing Costs and Budgets'

Progression Opportunities

Successful candidates can progress to:

  • Level 5 ILM Certificate in Leadership and Management
  • FdA Business Management (with certain other entry requirements)
  • Another qualification at a suitable level within or outside the NVQ framework as appropriate.

Career Opportunities

The ILM is a leading awarding body of management qualifications.

Holders of ILM qualifications should be able to enhance their opportunities for career progression within their existing organisations or increase their marketability should they wish to consider a career move.

Entry Requirements

Participants will normally be either practising or aspiring managers. You should be 18 or over and have at least four GCSEs with English at grade C.

Mature students who have no formal qualifications and relevant experience are also welcome.

If English is not your first language you will also need an IELTS 6 or above
