What made you decide that an Apprenticeship was the right option for you?

Whilst I was working part-time whilst studying for my AS Levels I realised that that I wanted to enter full-time work. The apprenticeship enabled me to gain qualifications whilst being in full time employment. I read up on Apprenticeships and thought they would be a great way to build my confidence and gain real life experience.

How did you find an employer?

I first of all made sure that my CV was up to date and began contacting companies who were offering apprenticeships. Within a short time I was invited by Vita Lend lease to attend an interview, after a second interview I was offered an apprenticeship in Business Administration.

What day-to-day jobs do you perform?

I provide support to a wide range of people within the company including Supervisors and Managers. On a daily basis I look after purchase orders, create presentations for senior managers and deal with a wide range of contractors that look after the maintenance of the hospitals. Each day is varied and includes meeting a wide range of people.

What are your career ambitions?

I’ve already completed my Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship and I hope to continue my training within Vita Lend Lease. I really enjoy working for the company and I hope that I can progress to become either a Business Manager and in the long-term a Facilities Manager.

What would you say to individuals that were considering Apprenticeships as a way to develop their career?

I have found that Apprenticeships are a great way to further my career and I would encourage others to look at them as well. I work within a team which has meant my personal skills and confidence has really improved. Apprenticeships are a great opportunity for people to gain qualifications whilst at work and I would certainly recommend them.

What advice would you give to people that are looking to find an employer to put them through an Apprenticeship?

The person has to really sell themselves on their CV and not be afraid to highlight all their qualities and skills. Approaching employers shows that you’re eager and enthusiastic and this is what I did when I found Vita Lend Lease. I would also aim to be positive and confident at all times when speaking to employers.
