Swedish Massage case study

Lindsey Sarah Wilson - Swedish Massage NVQ Level 3

Lindsey Sarah Wilson, originally from Doncaster, set up and ran her own natural health store selling health foods, vitamins, supplements and natural skin care products. Before selling the business Lindsey would deal with customers who complained of various health problems. She knew that certain massage techniques were known to help some of the issues that her customers were facing and realised that she could potentially give massages alongside offering nutritional advice. After selling the business in 2011 Lindsay moved to the north east and decided to pursue this idea by looking for massage courses in the area.

After an initial search Lindsey found that Newcastle College was the only provider that offered her the flexibility to study during the day for one day a week. This meant that she could study whilst her son was at school which would fit perfectly around her family commitments.

Lindsey says:

“I rang up and spoke to a helpful member of staff at the college who enrolled me on the course straight away, it couldn’t have been easier. The course is extremely practical and also lots of fun. Our tutor puts everyone at ease and is very professional.”

Lindsey has really enjoyed studying on the course and is keen to carry on with her studies to help in her new business start-up idea. Upon completion of her course Lindsey wants to progress to learn advanced massage techniques allowing her to perform lymphatic drainage and deep tissue massage. She then plans to open and run her own nutrition and therapy clinic for individual clients.

Lindsey wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the course to others:

‘’I have found the course to be brilliant, exactly meeting my expectations. The facilities and teaching are superb but there is a lot of demand for places, so I would recommend enrolling early to ensure you get the chance to do it.’’
